With a passion for all things sustainable, the team at LB Building has lovingly spent the last 9 months restoring, extending and modernising a little historic gem in the heritage pocket of Geelong West.
Our happy clients moved in last month and during a catch up with them this week they told me that it’s ” a very easy house to live in, we’re very happy”. And let us tell you why.
The house was cleverly designed by Brett Drayton at BKD Design to maximise light and Winter sun for heating. North and East facing clerestory windows plus a timber pergola with shading battens invite the gentle Winter sun in but keep the harsh Summer sun out.
5kw solar panels provide enough power to cover all of the owner’s electrical needs, whilst a rainwater reticulation system waters the garden and grass.
But it’s not all about the science of design. This home was designed to be modern, beautiful and pleasing to look at too. Walking in the front gate the weatherboard cottage facade has been restored to it’s original glory to match the Geelong West heritage streetscape. Aluminium windows were removed and timber hilite double hung windows were installed along with a fresh lick of paint to brighten up her look.
But deceptively hidden behind the historic facade is a modern beauty, revealed when you open the front door. Tasmanian Oak flooring sweeps through the open plan kitchen and living area which is flooded with natural lighting . The raked ceiling provides space and height adding to the contemporary look and feel.
